George Chlitsios was born in 1969 in Volos, Greece, but he grew up in Ioannina and lives there since. He started and completed his music studies at Epirotic Conservatory in Ioannina, piano and composition with Aspasia Zerva and Constantine Kydoniatis, and viola with Sophocles Politis and Nikos Kardaris. With the support of the "Tsakalof" Institute, he completed his studies in orchestral and choral conducting at Rotterdams Conservatorium and Koninklijk (Royal) Conservatorium in Hague (The Netherlands), while a 4-year scholarship awarded from the Academy of Athens, gave him the opportunity to continue his postgraduate and Master's degree studies at London College of Music, at Thames Valley University and the University of Surrey (Guildford). He is currently completing a PhD in composition at the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki. As composer, he wrote works for symphony orchestra, choir, string quartets, chamber music, piano and other solo instruments, in classical idiom and contemporary style, while he made dozens orchestrations and arrangements of well known classical works for various ensemble instrumentations. He also composed music for many theatrical plays, most of them for children, has supervised the music in commercial spots for radio and television as well as in short length documentaries, and many of his works have participated in european competitions. As conductor, George has conducted the Symphony Orchestra Tsakalof of Ioannina and Epirotiki Opera for more than 25 years, as well as the LCM Symphony Orchestra of London, the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Athens, The State Ballet of Plovdiv (Bulgaria), the New Sounds String Orchestra, the State Opera of Tirana (Albania), the Symphony Orchestra of Pazardzhik (Bulgaria), the Albanian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra (Egypt), the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Thessaloniki Municipal Symphony Orchestra and other smaller Greek and foreign symphonic ensembles and choirs. He is member of international organizations and associations, such as the American Musicological Society, the American Symphony Orchestra League, the Society for the Promotion of New Music (SPNM) of Great Britain, the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM), the Greek Composers Union etc. Together with his heavy artistic schedule, he teaches at the Epirotic Conservatory harmony, counterpoint, fugue, composition, violin, viola, chamber music, orherstral and choral conducting, while he is also Artistic Director at the Municipal Conservatory in Preveza. In March 2016 was appointed artistic Director of the recently established Camerata, Orchestra of the University of Ioannina, having already given important concerts and performances.
